Proposed Title of Project: Training Temporary Staff
Please give a brief description of proposed project:
Master’s Proposal
Here is an outline:
- Introduction (parallels chapter 1)
- Literature review (parallels chapter 2 and should be very short)
- Method (parallels chapter 3) should include the ADDIE steps for a design and development project and the design, instruments, and statistical methods for a thesis.
- Conclusion or Summary
Introduction
A successful partnership between temporary staff, the companies that hire them and the agencies that train and supply them (I say this as if temps are a commodity, which they are) allows for business, both private and public, to have temporary staff that is qualified, efficient and effective. Training, usually done by the temporary staffing agency, is needed to better prepare the temporary employee for the workplace, having an understanding of basic clerical skills, meeting the government requirements for such things as workplace violence or sexual harassment and understanding the basic structure of a professional office will provide for a more successful relationship between the temp worker and the company. A relationship between all the parties that are involved will help to ensure that the expectations of the hiring company are understood, and that any misinterpretations are addressed immediately.
Some areas of importance that my paper will draw from are (literature base):
- Computer Based Training
- Learner Choices
- Individual Differences, and
- Self-Efficacy
Attempting to create a training module that will help temporary staffing agencies better train their workers is necessary in this type of environment.
This project will seek to develop these online materials using an instructional design process and will attempt to measure the effectiveness of these materials.
Literature Review
Areas of literature that will inform this investigation are include above.
Method
The analysis phase of this project will use focus group and survey methods. Focus groups consisting of full-time credentialed teachers and administrative personnel in the district will seek to determine the nature of the content that might be presented and the types of student-content interaction that might be effective in this implementation.
This information, along with the research reviewed in chapter 2 will inform the development process. A delivery decision (online) has been made but the technologies that will be employed will be investigated. At least two rapid prototypes using different instructional models will be developed and tested by samples of temporary staff.
After determining what delivery models and interaction methods work best, an alpha version of the resources will be developed. This will include content development templates that will facilitate the creation of the content that will be presented. In addition the online resource will begin to mature through ongoing testing and modification. At this stage subject matter experts will be asked to review the content and its presentation. Improvements will be made as needed. Online education experts will be asked to review the navigation, structuring and technology implementations. Improvements will be made as needed.
When the alpha prototype has been tested and improved to the point that the developer is confident of its potential effectiveness the resource will emerge into its beta test stage. At this stage the content and structure of the resource will be held and testing by a sample of middle school students will again be used to test the reliability of the resource.
An implementation and evaluation plan will be discussed, but due to time constraints the actual implementation of this project will occur after the completion of the thesis.
Conclusion
This project will seek to develop an online temporary training module enrichment resource to be used by temporary staff at Coachella Valley Unified School District.
The ADDIE instructional design model, along with rapid prototyping will be used for this project. The project is expected to commence in March of 2010 and conclude in May of 2010.
I understand, affirm and agree that it is my responsibility to transfer my completed thesis to my first reader no later than 60 days prior to the format review deadline as established by Graduate Studies in order to avoid delays which might lead to my missing the format review deadline.
