Info:

This is my blog, I continue to use the same one since it keeps all of the work I have done for several classes in one convenient place.  It also allows me to see how I have changed and improved my use and understanding of online learning.

I have always struggled in online learning, I think it’s because if left to my own devices and I would rather surf the net then read, research and come up with my own opinion (or steal someone else’s and pass it off as my own).  Online learning and eLearning (which, although similar can be very different, especially when implemented) are difficult concepts for most people since we have all been indoctrinated into the 9-month, 7-hour, 5-day school schedule (indoctrinated? Forgive me I just re-read 1984).  I have taken a few classes using this format and each time I have struggled, since it is all up to me to make the time, I like most people wait until the last minute (anyone want to start a procrastinator’s anonymous? hmm maybe next week).

This type of learning environment takes some getting used to, but it does have its benefits, for example I have the tv on next to my computer, I have just taken a shower and I am in my PJ’s and I have milk and cookies within inches of my computer, oh and it allows people who do not live nearby or whose work and/or home life make it difficult to attend traditional classes to further their education.

For one of my projects I created a basic website to help substitute teachers better understand their environment and arm themselves, I mean prepare themselves for the battlefield, umm I mean classroom?  I figured since I understood the plight of the lowly substitute teacher I could impart what little wisdom (and self-respect those hormone crazed teenagers leave me with at the end of the day) I had learned.  This website is helpforsubs.com and I encourage you to browse it whenever you have a free moment.

I want to use this class to further improve my website and finish my Master’s project.

I agree with you in that eLearning is convenient for both the instructor and the student. I love the fact that with online learning I can attain the knowledge that I need without having to drive to campus, sit in traffic, spend money on gas and get out of class late at night when I need to work early the next morning. Your website sounds very interesting. Have any of your substitute teachers commented on the materials that you posted to your website yet?

You are right about the battlefield. Most educators are constantly finding ways to make learning more effective for the students and figuring out the best ways to implement it.

WOW! Your website have many useful resources.
